On June 2, 2002, Wings of Love made its online debut. It started with
fifty images of ranging quality (from (at the time) really good to downright
painful) and a somewhat brown layout using more Frames than you could
shake a stick at. Slowly, the amount of images grew, but the layout didn't.
So, in order to accomodate the lack of interactivity on the site, LiveJournal's
comment-system was utilized to allow people to leave feedback on the
varous images on the site.
When Wings of Love moved from Windschaser (where
it had previously been hosted, thanks to Odile) to the
'Era (along
with all of Xella's other sites), it needed a new layout. Thus, version
two came into existance, the only difference being a slight
reduction of unneeded frames and a new look (using pretty much the existing
frames,
however).
Maintaining two copies of an image's page (one on LiveJournal for the
comments, and one on Dys'daera.net for the mainstay images) became a
hassle, and the site was barely updated through
the course of 2003 (although admittedly, there was quite a bit of artistic
block that year). A decision was reached to move the entirety of the
image pages to LiveJournal, and just leave the image hosting and information
pages on Dys'daera.net. Version three was the very first layout on LiveJournal
(a LiveJournal default, too) as the site underwent a rehaul, removing
the poorer quality images that had been filler for the site's opening
to
start off
with
a good
body
of work, and adding newer and older images alike that I had neglected
to add, but which I felt should be there anyway.
Finally, on June 2, 2004—two years exactly since the site had first
opened, and six months since it had been concieved and started—version
four was finished and ready to make its debut. It was a bit larger than
previous
versions
(versions
1-3 fit
on
an 800x600
monitor;
version four needed to be displayed on a resolution of 1024x768 pixels
or higher), and images didn't have a thumbnail preview any longer, but
it worked. And it was shiny, and good, and that's what I cared about.
I'm aware that the way I've laid out the site may become frustrating
to some people who don't think the same way I might—while having
different thought processes is good in a creative sense, it makes it
that much
harder to make a website that is easily accessible for every potential
viewer.
Directly above this text is a dark purple bar. This bar contains information
about the site, but does not directly link to any image.
- Main: This is the main page, which really serves very little purpose
but as an introduction to the site, suggesting some possible roads to
take.
- About Wings of Love: This page contains information about the history
of the site, and a little bit of information about Xella. This is also
the page that you're currently reading. Yay!
- How to Use the Site: Directions on how to browse the images on this
website, and the system used to set them up. Also contains samples of
images you might find in different categories.
- Frequently Asked Questions: What it sounds like, baisically. This is
the page that answers all those questions I hear a lot from different
people.
- Comission & Art Trade Info: The big thing to do if you're an artist
online is to participate in Art Trades and to take commissions. Here's
where you can find out the status of any I'm doing at the moment, and
if I'm even taking them.
- Links: Contains links (duh?) to other pages
- Link Us: Banners, buttons, and other whimsical doo-dads you might want
to use if you feel you want to link Wings of Love. Which would be a very
nice thing to do, by the way *^^*
- Newest Updates: This links offsite to the main Wings of Love LiveJournal
page, which lists the recent image uploads in reverse chronological order
(from newest to oldest) with information about each image.
